Photo's from Canyon Crest Tennis Tournament

Our first Canyon Crest Tennis Tournament was held on Sunday, and we had a nice turnout of seasoned participants and some exciting (and at times, lumbering) play. Highlights: Joan took home the trophy and the most consistent award. Ivan the "Rocket" Sirin was top server. Jack took the "best crash" category.

A special thanks to our resident Tennis Pro, Eileen Semple, who organized the event AND supplied the drinks, snacks and the grand prize!

We hope to make this a regular event. For those of you who missed it -- see you on the court next time!!

Neighborhood Watch Info

Listed below is the information I presented at the last board meeting plus the answers to the questions I presented to the Crime Prevention Specialist that manages the Neighborhood Watch program.

Numbers to call
Emergency: 9-1-1
Non-emergency: (949) 644-3717
Vacation Check: (949) 644-3681

Neighborhood Safety

* "The best crime prevention device ever invented is a good neighbor"
* Always be aware of your surroundings
* Use your outside lights; if possible put them on a timer
* Also use your inside lights when you are on vacation
* Let your neighbors know when you are going on vacation
* Call the NBPD Vacation Check when you go on vacation (949) 644-3681
* Pick up any newspapers or flyers delivered to your neighbor's home who is on vacation
* Area crime trends are posted at www.nbpd.org, Call for Service, #53 is our area

As I committed to the board, If a homeowner does not want to call the PD directly, I will make the call. Jim Casey has also volunteered to be my backup if I am unavailable. Our phone numbers are published in the directory.

Andi Querry is willing to make a presentation to our homeowners on Crime Prevention and Safety in our neighborhood. I recommend we invite her to the September election meeting since it always brings out the largest gathering of homeowners.

Sorry for the long email. I will give you the next update after this month's Neighborhood Watch meeting, 5/18/10.

Thanks,

Lou

Canyon Crest painters tackle Canyon Lane wall!

Thanks to everyone who came out today! 11 citizen painters -- Joani & Lou Stavale, Jenelle Hardick, Lori Loper, Barbara Walker, Jim Casey, Kay Swikart, Gloria Hickman, Michael Clayton and Eileen Semple (commander in chief) braved the ominous clouds to get some painting done on the Canyon Lane wall. We made some good progress but were unable to finish it all due to fear of impending rain, which in the end didn't come. So for those of you who missed out, there's still plenty left to do. We'll advise when the next work day is. In the meantime anyone who wants to continue the paint work in their spare time, or have other touch-ups around the complex they'd like to tackle, please contact Mike or Jim as we have extra cans of paint.

Check it out and let us know what you think. Pictures coming soon.

An Open Letter to Canyon Crest Homeowners

February 18, 2010

Dear Friends:

Most of you have recently received a mysterious letter which asks you to contact Joan Kaye about a proposed new landscaping contract. The letter also states that the Board is “talking about increasing the association fee.” There has been no such discussion. The author of the letter has chosen to remain anonymous by signing it “Canyon Crest Voice.”
For us, your Board members, the “Voice of Canyon Crest” is those homeowners who come to meetings every month to listen to the Board’s discussions and express their opinions. And, if they can’t be present, they check the agenda to see if there are any items about which they want to express their opinions to the Board before a decision is made.
The “Voice of Canyon Crest” is those volunteers who worked so hard to put on the lovely winter social we all enjoyed and who are now planning the June 6th community event.
The “Voice of Canyon Crest” is the members of the Long Range Planning Committee who have been working for months to create a better, more beautiful community here – with input from all homeowners.
The “Voice of Canyon Crest” is those volunteers who are planning to show up this Saturday, and give their time to help with a community painting project.
And, yes, the “Voice of Canyon Crest” is the 5 Board members whom you have chosen to represent you and who have spent as much as 20 hours a week on the business of this association. These people serve on the Board because they feel a responsibility to the community in which we all live and generously give their time to make it the kind of community of which we can all be proud.
The “Voice of Canyon Crest” is not an anonymous letter, full of untruths, sent by someone who does not have the courage to sign her name, much less express her opinions in a public forum. It is not the kind of back-biting which increases the burden of the Board members who have to take time from the serious business of the association to respond to it, and which creates a negative atmosphere for the community overall.
Friends and neighbors we urge you all to come to the Board meetings and express your opinions freely, contact your Board members regularly, run for office, join committees, help with the beautification projects, participate in the community socials …. and be a positive “Voice of Canyon Crest”
Please, when you get letters that attempt to undermine the many positive efforts that are being made in this community, throw them in the trash where they belong. Feel free to contact any of us directly, at any time, if you would like to discuss this or any other community issue of concern to you.

Yours truly,

The Canyon Crest estates Board of Directors
Joan Kaye, President
Bob Kopicki, Vice President
Michael Clayton, Treasurer
Jack Dangelo, Secretary
Brenda Hughes, Member at Large
